Not so long ago I have made a decision to discontinue using Discus Comments Management on my other blogs. My concerns were a little silly at the time. I love what Disqus have done so far and certainly some of the features they offer convinced me to keep them on few of my other blogs including Go Beyond MLS. In fact I have encouraged other real estate bloggers to give this service a try.
Besides my growing concerns with the way Disqus is handling spam. Evidently they think one comment box is not enough for the visitors to my blog:

Evidently it is some sort of glitch in their system. But since we are on the topic here are two other concerns of mine:
- Import/Export Feature needs serious upgrade. If you decide for whatever reason to discontinue to use Disqus and export the comments from their system and then import them to your blog, it will simply create individual blog posts- hundreds or even thousands of them if your blog is popular. It would be nice idea to develop a plugin that would enter every comment into your own database, thus eliminating the need of import/export feature.
- Spam. While I have no complains of spam slipping to my blog. I do see some legitimate comments being flagged as spam. I hate “collective intelligence” approach as far as spam is concerned. I am not sure a frame work of Spam Karma would help, but it would be a good idea to offer each individual blogger control over the spam moderation.
There is a new release 2.01 that addresses all of the points you mention.
Thanks Vlad.
Daniel,
I did not realize that there was a new plugin released. However when I navigated to upgrade (via the link you sent me on twitter), there is only one plugin. I am currently using the API plugin. Did you decide to go only with Java plugin? If so I will most likely reverse to my old way of moderating the comments here.
No, you should use the API plugin, 2.0.1.
You are using 1.1.
Thanks Daniel,
The new version works well. I may just switch back to Disqus on my other blogs. Thanks again.
Dan I ma not sure how useful this is but I have noticed a few things. With this new upgrade you in effect are “forcing” users to have Disqus on ALL posts. No more “zero comments and all feature posts”, which is fine by me. However if some one is currently using Askimet or Spam Karma plugin it would be a good advise to completely and permanently delete their spam queue. I was close to load the Discus database with over 4000 porn sites. The queue from Akisment and Spam Karma where holding that much spam. Thank goodness your plugin chocked on me. I think because of the number of comments. Which also brings me to another point. What is a person tries to import 4000 real comments. Will they be able to do so?
Yes, however malformed comments may cause a failure in the import.
This is often due to spam comments.
Thanks for the suggestions about the spam queue though, Vlad.
Some great information!
Definitely giving this a try. I'm here just to check out how well it's working. Spam is your worst enemy here.
I have to say that Disqus is doing a good job as far as spam is concerned.
I share your frustration with spam on blogs.
Let's hope the new release helps.
Is that API plugin, 2.0.1. is better?
Well many bloggers are now using Disqus, For it has fixed the problems they had face regarding with their system, Disqus had many cool features to offer for bloggers
I have had an ongoing beef with Disqus. But their latest improvements pretty
much dispelled all my reservations.
Disqus is powered by Django, and when asked why Daniel's response as built upon one sentence
Disqus has always been my favorite commenting system. The speed of it always amazes me.Disqus is under active development.it is a listen to user feedback.
Vlad – hi there. Have not communicated in quite a long time.
Is your opinion of Disqus changed since your last post of July 2009?
