For good number of months this blog’s comment were managed by Disqus– a useful third party comment management system. It allowed me to moderate comments on multiple blogs from one place- most of that moderation was actually done straight from my e-mail.
After the recent update of WordPress to the latest 2.7 version, thanks to a friend in affiliate marketing, I have decided to also to move the comment moderation on this blog to IntenseDebate.
This is a good and a bad news at the same time. Since I have grown to love Disqus quiet a bit, it is hard to say goodbye, since it truly served me well.
I also have some logistic issues of moving several pages that with comments numbering above 50 comments per post. Some of them were saved as a plain old HTML pages (it is a long story), so I will have to move at least several hundreds of comments manually- one by one. As a result of it, you will most likely to see a splash page that will tell you that my site is temporarily unavailable- this will be done with Maintenance Mode Plugin. I sincerly hope to accomplish the move before Christmas.
On the good note I am looking forward to IntenseDebate. You have to love the name of the plugin, as many of you may remember that on occasions some truly intense debates have taken place on this blog- so the even the name of is befitting. I also think that IntenseDebate will have a great future among WordPress bloggers. IntenseDebate is now owned by Automattic– the company behind WordPress. They of course offer the integration of their system through plugin if your blog is powered by WordPress.
I also would like to assure that if you commented on my blogs in the past, they are saved and will appear in the same place on this blog (plus on the IntenseDebate website) where you left them after the move is over.
My friend tried Intense Debate on his Blog and he did not get any extra value for it.
Maybe it will work for you!
Igor,
IntenseDebate have recently made some MAJOR improvements. If you ever decide to try it – go for WP plugin integration. I think comparing to Disqus they are just about the same. The only difference is that IntenseDebate seems to be handle better posts with a lot of comments. We'll see how it goes. You can plug either into your FriendFeed as well. I have been trying it on another blog for a few days. So far so good.
I do not get it. with disqus and Intense Debate the comments are stored on the aggregation websites. You do not have disqus now, but the comment that I posted with disqus is still here.
How do you do this? Do you colect the comments in your WordPress datbase as well as send it to disqus?
Igor,
I have just disabled Disqus. The latest version of Disqus WordPress plugin allowed to sync your comments- every comment made with Disqus is entered into your Disqus database- so if you decide to leave them all you have have to do is to turn the plugin off. It also good for the times when Disqus is down.
IntenseDebate has the same feature.
I meant to say that every comment made via Disqus is entered into your WordPress
Yeah, I read about it after I asked you. That is great. Maybe I should try Discus? But then the commenter has to regester with Discus to post.
Does Intense Debate also sync with WordPress database?
Yes the IntesnseDebate does sync as well.
Well, guess I will need to sign up with another Social Media platform, so I can comment on my friends’ blogs. 😉
I gor don’t go too far I am about to fire up the IntenseDebate plugin- what you to tell me what do you make of it. Come back to comment in 10 minutes or so.
So how is this?
I see I can comment with my name and ulr. I do not need to sign up for Intense Debate, to comment. But one thing, it does not remember my info in the form fields.
If you register it will 🙂 . Just think of it as another way to build a community.
Maybe I will try it out later, or go with Discus. I just installed Subscribe to Comments plugin on my blog.
I used to love that Plugin. Disqus kind of takes care of that part. So does IntenseDebate. With IntenseDebat you can leave the comments to look as they were WordPress' default comments. I think Subscribe to Comments will work much better with Intense Debate. Disqus is a little strange as an owner you are notified about every comment but if I made a comment on blog that is not mine, unless some one replies to my comment I want be notified- you can miss some good debates that way.
Since you are into video blogging- Disqus maybe better for you since they have seesmic integration so visitors can leave video comments if they want to?
Once I found your bloog from Google. I’m reading your post several times because it introduces a fresh idea for my business.
I love plug-in and I used the Disqus plug-in but I think I have become a real fan of IntenseDebate very quickly. Both are great.
Nancy, thanks for stopping by. Unfortunately I became very disappointed with both plugins. I also think I will never use a third party comment moderations software again in my life. But that’s just me. If it serves you well, you should definitely continue to use it!
Blog comments are a GREAT way to get backlinks and traffic! Not sure why more people don
Hi, nice post. I have been wondering about this issue,so thanks for writing. I will certainly be subscribing to your posts.
